Why we support ngPIF, by Rack Centre

Enabling direct connectivity between networks, peering and interconnection can help to reduce latency, improve performance, and reduce costs for users, a data centre company, Rack Centre, said yesterday in Lagos.

Justifying the company’s support for 2023 Nigerian Peering and Interconnection Forum (ngPIF), the Chief Operating Officer, Rack Centre, Mr. Ezekiel Egboye, said it was to improve industry growth and performance.

He said: “Rack Centre is a proud sponsor of ngPIF because it believes that peering and interconnection are essential for the development of the Nigerian internet ecosystem. By enabling direct connectivity between networks, peering and interconnection can help to reduce latency, improve performance, and reduce costs for users.”

The ngPIF forum scheduled for between October 25 and 26 2023 at the Eko Hotels, is a two-day event that brings together industry leaders, decision-makers in infrastructure, content creation, and stakeholders to discuss the latest trends and developments in peering and interconnection in Nigeria. The event will feature a variety of sessions, including panel discussions, workshops, and keynotes. The Forum provides an opportunity to engage, share experiences on the economics of network interconnection and peering with experts providing learnings from their field.

To further expand their footprint in the region, Rack Centre has embarked on the construction of a new state-of-the-art IFC Edge-certified hyperscale and AI-ready data centre, Rack Centre LGS 2, located on a sprawling 20,000 square metres green field site which would see Rack centre expand its IT Load capacity to a remarkable 13.5MW in the Lagos campus facility. This expansion will bolster the growth of the data hub that Rack Centre has evolved into and serve as the cornerstone for the rapidly evolving digital society, which is transforming into a highly interconnected multi-cloud ecosystem supported by AI.

Rack Centre’s ecosystem includes 65 telecommunication carriers, Internet Service Providers (ISP), global Tier 1 networks, and pan Africa international carriers, including direct interconnections to all major subsea cables serving the South Atlantic Coast of Africa including Equiano and in the foreseeable future 2Africa.

The company became the first International Finance Corporation (IFC) EDGE-certified data centre in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, officially making this the first Green Certified Data Centre in Africa and the most connected facility in the region, according to its Peering DB ranking.
