The
House of Representatives on Wednesday approved the extension of the lifespan of
the capital component of the 2023 budget from. March 31,2024 to June 30, 2024.
The
House also extend the lifespan of the 2023 supplementary appropriation from March
31, 2024 to June 30, 2024.
President
Bola Ahmed Tinubu had asked the House of Representatives to extend the period
for the implementation of the capital component of the 2023 appropriation bill
from March 31, 2024 to June 30, 2024.
In a
letter read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, the
President also ask the House to extend the implementation of the supplementary
appropriation act from March 31, 2024 to June 30, 2024.
He
said the extension became necessary to ensure that the provisions of the two
acts are fully implemented.
Chief
Whip of the House, Usman Bello Kumo (APC, Gombe) who led the debate on the
President's request said the extension will allow the government complete some
legacy projects it inherited from the previous administration.
According
to Jump, extending the life span of the budget and supplementary budget was in
the best interest of the country.
