NPA’s new Executive Director visits Apapa port

The newly appointed Executive Director, Marine and Operations of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Olalekan Badmus, yesterday, visited the Lagos Port Complex (LPC) Apapa to familiarise himself with port operations.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the appointment of Badmus  into the position on January 4 along with other Executive Directors in NPA and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

During the familiarisation tour, Badmus was accompanied by NPA’s General Manager, Marine & Operations, Captain Jerome Angyunwe; General Manager, Security, Khalil Mohammed and Assistant General Manager, Operations Stella Oladiran; the new Executive Director was received by the LPC management staff led by the Port Manager, Charles Okaga.

Speaking at the occasion, Badmus said the purpose of the visit was “to understand the issues on ground” at the port.

He said new patrol boats and marine crafts recently acquired for the port by the NPA management would be commissioned tomorrow (today).

In his briefing, Okaga said LPC is Nigeria’s premiere seaport with a quay length of 4.3km. He also noted that the port operates 24 hours daily.

He added that the port operates all the modes of transportation, has cheaper freight rates, secured and has an automated access gate and maintains the highest safety and security measures.

The tour of the port facility included the terminals under the LPC like the  ENL Consortium, APM Terminals Apapa, Apapa Bulk Terminal, Greenview Development Nigeria Ltd and Eko Support.
