The Skyway Aviation Handling
Company (SAHCO) Plc (SAHCO) has offered
clarifications on alleged multi - billion naira drug operations linking its
staff at the cargo warehouse of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport
(MMIA), Lagos.
According to the cargo, passenger
and ramp handling company, none of its staff was involved in such operations,
describing reports making the rounds as grossly misleading, malicious and a
figment of imagination.
In a statement signed by its
spokesperson, Vanessa Unansohia, the company found it compelling to offer the
clarification to dispel viral information on the development.
SAHCO further explained that all
Government agencies, including National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),
the Department of State Services, (DSS), Quarantine, Airforce etc, have
unfettered access to its warehouse where they carry out their duties without
any interference.
“It is therefore important to
note that this is not the first-time suspects will be arrested within our
facilities and we always cooperate with the agencies while they carry out their
investigation without shielding anyone involved be it our staff, contractor or
business partner.
“Although, we serve as a gateway
to Imports and Exports in Nigeria and we are proud to provide such a world
class facility in Nigeria, our role does not include verification, checking the
content of cargo as alleged in this report. It is therefore fiendish and cruel
to insinuate we run a drug cartel.
“As a responsible company, we
make available the latest technology to assist Government agencies to fight any
form of crime within our facilities and we will not relent in doing that. We hereby advise the public to ignore this fake
news that is being peddled.
“Let me say without mincing words
that the report is false and it is only a figment of the imagination of the
reporter.”
