Fertilizer giant OCP Group is
taking steps to ensure the food system in Nigeria and the rest of Africa has
tremendous potential to ensure nutritional security sustainably.
The company said the key to
nutritional sufficiency and a food-secure future is soil health.
To this end, the organisation is
working with scientists to develop solutions that can be available locally to
bridge nutrient deficiencies.
The company announced the launch of OCP
Nutricrops, a new subsidiary seeking to accelerate the group’s transition to
fully customized plant nutrition solutions.
The OCP subsidiary emphasized its
determination to leverage the group’s leading phosphate-based plant nutrition production
as well as distribution capabilities to offer farmers customized solutions.
Such tools seek to enable farmers
to preserve soil health, increase their crop yields sustainably, combat climate
challenges as well as protect the natural environment.
Chairman and Chief Executive OCP
Nutricrops, Soufiyane El Kassi,
emphasized that the new subsidiary will “spearhead a new direction” for
effective soil health and plant nutrition solutions.
“Only by using customized soil
and plant nutrition solutions can we improve global foods security while
combating climate change and protecting the natural environment,” El Kassi
said.
El Kassi also expressed the new
subsidiary’s commitment to working with farmers as well as other stakeholders
to accelerate the mission towards fully customized and farmer-centric
solutions.
Through Nutricrops, farmers will
benefit from access to the most efficient and sustainable soil health and plant
nutrition solutions as well as the latest application expertise wherever they
are located worldwide.
“OCP Nutricrops” flexible
production system enables the manufacture of nutrients tailored to the crop,
climate, and soil,” the company said, noting that the subsidiary will also
offer training at different levels, including nutrient management techniques.
This training would ensure crops
get the right nutrients at the right rate, place, and time
“OCP Nutricrops products are
designed to enable farmers to preserve and enhance their soils and thereby
boost their productivity and income,” the company said.
The new subsidiary is part of
OCP’s initiatives, seeking to boost sustainable agriculture to serve the
world’s food security.
